The Roosters ran out 36 to 20 winners to advance. Then at Accor Stadium on Sunday 27 September at 4:00 pm AET, minor premiers Penrith Panthers, priced at 1.42, met the seventh placed Newcastle Knights at 2.90. Newcastle produced the boilover, winning 22 to 14 to send the Panthers out and keep their own premiership hopes alive. Two favourites beaten, two lower seeds still standing.
